My God, My All

I will love You, O LORD, my strength.  The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. Psalm 18, 1,2, NKJV

Dear Lord, how sweet it is to be in Your presence.  May we hear Your voice in this quiet hour; for Christ’s sake, Amen

I believe we will need at least two days to feast upon this wonderful promise.  God is all of this to us, and then some.  How blessed we are!  Before we look at our promise for today, let us declare our love to God:

“I will love You, O LORD.”  How can we ever express in our meager vocabulary the love that God deserves from us; the love we feel toward Him when we remember all the things that He has done for each of us.  My heart gets very full when I think of how He spared my life on more than one occasion.  I bow in humble gratitude when I think of how many times He has made my bed in sickness; how He is keeping me in spite of all that has come my way.  What a God!  What a Savior!  I invite each of you who visit the web today, to take this opportunity, before going any further, to just stop for a moment, and think of all the things that God has done for you; of all the ways He has blessed you, and just praise Him!  For He is worthy to be praised!

“…My strength.”  The psalmist refers to God as His strength two times in two verses.  Where else would we receive strength if it were not for God?  When the LORD delivered Moses and the children of Israel from Pharaoh and his army, listen to a portion of their song:  “The LORD is my strength and song, and He has become my salvation; He is my God, and I will praise Him; my father’s God, and I will exalt Him” (Exodus 15: 2).  The prophet Habakkuk put it this way:  “The Lord God is my strength; He will make my feet like deer’s feet, and He will make me walk on my high hills” (3: 19).  Notice how God and strength are always in close proximity!  You cannot have one without the other.  He is the all – mighty God!  Hallelujah!

The LORD is my rock.”  In the book of Deuteronomy we read:  “For I proclaim the name of the LORD:  Ascribe greatness to our God.  He is the Rock, His work is perfect; for all His ways are justice, a God of truth and without injustice; righteous and upright is He” (32: 3, 4).  When we stand on the LORD our Rock, we are standing on solid ground!  What a God; in Him there is perfect salvation!

…my fortress.”  In the definition of fortress we find words and phrases like, “fortified place,” “impenetrable,” “acts as protection.”  Let us see how fitting they are in describing our Savior.  “Be my strong refuge, to which I may resort continually; You have given the commandment to save me, for You are my rock and my fortress” (Psalm 71: 3).  Here we see the ideas of a fortified place (strong refuge); and protection (commandment to save me).  He is all that our souls will ever need!

…and my deliverer.”  In 2 Samuel 22, we find where Psalm 18 originated.  It was “the day the Lord delivered [David] from the hand of all his enemies.”  “[H]e reached from on high, [H]e took me, [H]e drew me out of mighty waters.  [H]e delivered me from my strong enemy, from those who hated me; for they were too mighty for me.  They came upon me in the day of my calamity, but the Lord was my stay.  [H]e brought me out into a broad place; [H]e delivered me because [H]e delighted in me” (1, 17-20, NRSV).

Do you need a Savior?  I offer You My Savior, Jesus the LORD!  Tomorrow we will continue.  Blessings!
