“Unto Us A Son Is Given; And the Government Will Be Upon His Shoulder” – Part 5

And His name will be called . . .Everlasting Father” (Isaiah 9:6).

Our Father in Heaven, here we are once again to study and to rejoice in the fact that for every season of our life, You are mighty to save! Help us to call upon You, not only in the day of trouble, but also in times of rejoicing, knowing that all good things come from You, our Lord and our God. In Your gracious Name we pray. Amen.

We have come to the last two names on the list of names given to the Son of God, when He became one with the human race. As we studied the first three, I hope You were able to identify the seasons of Your life, when the characteristics of these names were manifested in Christ’s dealing with you!

Today we will be looking at the Name: Everlasting Father”

In this name of Jesus our Redeemer, the Oneness between the Father and the Son is very visible:

In the beginning was [Jesus] and [Jesus] was with God, and [Jesus] was God. He was in the beginning with God” (John 1:1-2, emphasis supplied).  I have replaced “the Word” with the name of Jesus, to whom it is referring. He was the One to whom all the Word (prophesies) of the coming Messiah were referring. So when the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us, the Holy Spirit anointed Him, and the Father declared Him, as the One (Matthew 3:16, 17). John the Baptist acknowledged Him, as the One (John 1:29-36). Many recognized Him as the One (see John 7:40-41). But He was not received, as the One, by His own (1:11).

“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name” (12). Praise be to God!

Everlastingadj. 1. Lasting forever: ETERNAL. 2a. Continuing for a long time or indefinitely. . . . —n.1. the Everlasting. God 1a, b. 2. Eternal duration: ETERNITY (Webster’s II, New College Dictionary, Third Edition).

(Hebrew) ‘ad, from [‘âdâh]; properly a (peremptory) terminus, i.e. (by implication) duration, in the sense of advance or perpetuity (substantially as a noun, either with or without a preposition):—eternity, ever (-lasting, -more), old, perpetually, + world without end. . . .A noun meaning eternity. The word signifies God’s dwelling place (Isa 57:15). . . . ‘âdâh, a primitive root; to advance, pass on or continue  (Hebrew-Greek KEY WORD STUDY BIBLE, KJV, Old Testament Dictionary).

This name absolutely describes God the Son. Eternal. Without beginning and without end. Before there was a beginning, there was God! God gave the beginning, in our sphere, its initiation, by using it to start the creation. In the beginning God created . . . (Genesis 1).

Therefore, we need not worry if there will ever be a time that God will not be there when we need Him!  He is from everlasting to everlasting! He is ever there, and ever near, and He cares! That is a very comforting thought for me! I pray that you will also find comfort in it.

In our world, fallen and broken as it is, there are fathers who are missing in action, when they are needed the most! This can create a vicious circle. A young man grows up in a home where a father is missing, and decides that he too, has the right to do likewise, because, doesn’t daddy know best?

In my own experience, growing up without my father, I cried a lot as an adolescent. There always seemed to be something that was not quite complete in my life. My beloved granddad and my uncle, my mother’s brother, (both now resting in peace), were always there for my sibblings and for me, but for some reason they did not fill the void in my heart.

And then I accepted Jesus into my life, and my entire world, began to take shape! I had Someone on whom I could depend. Someone who would ALWAYS BE THERE FOR ME! My ABBA, gave me new lenses with which to look at the world and myself! He also filled the void in my heart, and dried my tears!

And the best news of all, is that ABBA has eternity to spend with me, for He is Eternal! And I am being re-created in His image and likeness. Therefore, we will be together, forever- world without end. Amen!!!
