Behold, I will do a new thing

Do not call to mind the former things, or ponder things of the past. “Behold, I will do something new, now it will spring forth; will you not be aware of it?  I will even make a roadway in the wilderness, rivers in the desert…”

Lord, we wait in anticipation of the “new thing” that You are going to do for us today.   Amen

There is something about newness.  It brings with it excitement, anticipation, hope, that better things lay ahead.  Newness is like turning over a fresh page.  This time, we will do it right!  That is why we look forward to the New Year with such expectation.

Our promise for today is that God will do something new for His people!  The new is meant to replace the old.  What was old in Israel’s experience that needed to be replaced with something new?  When God’s people left Egypt they left behind them their status as slaves.  God had now given them a new name, that of “My firstborn.”  They had literally gone from rags to riches; from paupers to princes and princesses.  They needed a new mindset.  They had to lose their taste for slaves’ food.  They had to start behaving like the royalty they had become.

God was even going to perform a new miracle for them!  When they came to the Red Sea with Pharoah’s army pursuing them, God had made a dry path in the sea.  Now He promises to do the exact opposite, a “new thing.”  He would make rivers in the midst of the desert!  But before He could do this, they were to do something.  They were to forget the former things; the things of the past.  Sometimes remembering the things that are past can impede our advancing in the future.

This promise is also for you and me.  What memories of the past are preventing us from receiving our “new miracle?”  Whatever it may be, let us resolve by God’s grace, to give it to Jesus, and receive from Him a brand new beginning!

Behold, I will do a new thing
