The Lord Is My Keeper

I will lift up my  eyes to the hills – From whence comes my help?  My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth. Psalm 121: 1,2, NKJV

Dear God, as we look to You for help, help us to see You lifted up in all Your glory.  Amen

This is one of the Psalms known as a Psalm of Ascents.  As the Israelites journeyed to Jerusalem this Psalm constituted a dialogue between the pilgrims and a priest.  It is a Psalm that speaks of trust; trust in an all-powerful God.  It speaks of a God who is both Creator, and Protector!  Let us look for a few minutes at the kind of help that comes from the LORD:

He will not allow your foot to be moved[.]” How important is it that our foot not be moved?  I believe it is very important!  Our feet sustain our entire body.  If the foot slips, the entire body goes with it.  In order for us to stand firm and upright, we need strong feet.  I believe this can be applied both physically and spiritually.  God gave “His angels charge over [us] to keep us in all our ways.  In their hands they shall bear [us] up [when we tread on dangerous ground] lest [we] dash [our] foot against a stone” (Psalm 91: 11, 12).  That is how important it is to God that our foot not be moved in the wrong direction!

In some instances it seems to be a matter of life and death.  Referring to God the Psalmist says, “Who keep our souls among the living, and does not allow our foot to be moved” (Psalm 66: 9).  It seems as if the two thoughts are intimately joined together keeping us alive, and not allowing our foot to be moved!  One bad move could cost us our life!  Perhaps even our spiritual life!  I praise God that He will not allow our foot to be moved!

…He who keeps you will not slumber…nor sleep.”  In Isaiah 40: 28 the prophet reminds us that “the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth,” never faints, nor grow weary.  We need not fear that He will fall asleep on the job.  He is not a man, remember?

The Lord is your keeper.” He is powerful enough to “keep [us] from falling, and to present us faultless!” to keep us from the hour of temptation, to keep us from the evil one, to “keep our souls in famine.”  He is able to keep us from all harm!

The Lord is your shade at your right hand” from the sun and the moon.  When Israel left Egypt the Lord became a pillar of a clouid to protect them from the sun during the day, and a pillar of fire by night to protect them from the cold of the desert at night.  I also found out that “some ancient views considered exposure to the moon as harmful.”  The great “I AM” is all we need!

The Lord shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul…your going out and your coming in…even forevermore.”  When we are in His care, we have nothing to fear.  Our souls are safe in Him.  Isn’t it wonderful that He is your God and mine?

My trust in God does not depend on sight; I know in whom I have believed, I have proven His might.  When shadows fall and earth looks grim, I know that I can trust in Him!

Is He your Keeper?  If not, why not choose Him today?
