God Gives His Angel Charge Over His Own

The angel of the LORD encamps all around those who fear Him, and delivers them. Psalm 34: 7, NKJV

Father, thank You so much for caring for Your children.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen

When I was a little girl, there was a beautiful painting hanging on the wall in our bedroom.  It was of two small children standing close to the edge of a body of water.  It seems that the little boy was holding his boat by a string when the string slipped from his hand into the water.  The boat was being washed away.  The little boy was leaning so close to the edge that it looked as if, at any moment, he would fall into the water.  However, there in the background, obviously unseen by the children, was a tall angel, reaching toward the little boy.  When I asked my grandmother about the painting, she told me that the children represented her two children, my mother, and my uncle.  It gave her a good feeling to think that angels were watching over them.

It is good to know that for every evil angel there are two angels of the LORD (Revelation 12: 4a)!  Wherever we are, or in whatever situation we find ourselves, angels are watching over us, thank God.  They are mentioned throughout the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation; and are described as “ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation” (Hebrews 1: 14).  God has taken every necessary precaution to keep us safe, and to help us to be saved!  How wonderful!  Hallelujah!

Their ministry to humankind is very diverse.  They take care of us (1 Kings 19: 5-7).  They are witnesses (Ecclesiastes 5: 6).  They fight our battles (Isaiah 37: 36).  They close the mouths of lions (Daniel 6: 22).  They bring answers to prayers (Daniel 9: 21-27).  They mete out punishment (2 Samuel 24: 17).  They bring us messages (Matthew 1: 20; Luke 1: 13; Acts 27: 23, 24).  They give us directions (Acts 8: 26).  They open prison doors (Acts 5: 19; 12: 7-10).  These are only some of the things they do as they minister unto us.

It was Wednesday evening.  I had planned to go to prayer meeting, and was running late.  Just as I was clearing my desk, the telephone rang.  It was one of my close friends.  She said to me:  “Are you all right?”  I assured her I was.  She continued:  “I have been thinking about you.  Please be careful.  I will be praying for you.”  I thanked her, we ended our conversation, and I continued putting things away.  When I was through, I locked the office door and left.  I wanted to get to the bus stop before it became too dark. Seeing that there was no one else when I arrived, I decided to walk to another bus stop not too far away, where there were usually more people waiting.

I started walking as fast as I could.  I was nervous.  Here I was, a woman, alone, walking on this desolate, dark, road.  I had spoken to my husband earlier and told him that I would be leaving the office early.  By the time I realized that I would be leaving late, he had already left his place of employment, and I had no way of reaching him (there were no cell phones those days).  Soon, I heard a car behind me coming at an incredible speed.  There were no lights along the path where I was walking.  Suddenly, there was a blood-curdling screech, and my entire body was flooded by the bright beams of the car.  In that instant I froze and waited to feel the impact of the car.  Then there was silence. I could not bring myself to turn around.  After what seemed an eternity, there was another screech, as the car backed away, pebbles flew into the air, and the car took off and disappeared down the road.  To this day, I cannot give one detail about that car.

God saw my danger, and impressed my friend to pray for me.  One of these days, when by God’s grace, I get to heaven, I will look in the books and confirm what I believe happened that night:  God sent His angel(s) to stand between me and that car; and only He knows what else!

I reached prayer meeting on time to share my testimony!
