What Is In Your Hand?

The LORD said to him, “What is that in your hand?”  Exodus 4: 2, NRSV

Dear Lord, we are willing for you to reveal to us, what is in our hands, and how it can be used for Your glory; so please speak to our hearts; for Christ’s sake; Amen

For the past five days we have watched how God used the things people had in their hands and were willing to use at His command, to bring glory to Himself.  The amount, or the size, of their possessions, were not of primary importance.  What they did with what they had, was what really mattered.

With a slingshot and five smooth stones in his hands, David went in the name of the LORD of hosts; and zealous for the honor of the LORD, he defeated the giant Goliath, and put to flight the army of the Philistines (1 Samuel 17: 40, 50, 51).  He fought in his own armor, because that was his right fit.

With a staff in his hand, Moses faced Pharaoh, the most powerful ruler upon the face of the earth at that time.  Under the leadership of God, this man, that could hardly speak (Exodus 4: 10) led the Israelites out of Egypt, after more than four hundred years of Egyptian bondage!

With a trumpet in hand, an empty bottle with a torch in it, and a shout, Gideon and his army of three hundred men, defeated a military coalition as thick as locusts in number; their camels, were like the sand on the seashore, numberless (Judges 7: 12).

With a handful of meal, and a little oil  (1 Kings 17: 12), the widow of Zarephat had enough food for her son, the prophet, and herself, while the famine lasted, for more than three years.  God multiplied the little she had, because she was willing to let Him have it.

With twelve stones in hand, Elijah the prophet, repaired the altar of the LORD; fearlessly stood up to the four hundred and fifty prophets of Baal; led the people of Israel back to the worship of the true God, and brought glory to the LORD.

Today, what is in your hand that God can use to bring glory to Himself?  Are you willing to put it in His hand?  During this week as we meditated on the lives of those who were willing to give God what they had, for Him to use it for His glory, did you feel the desire to lay your all on the altar?  You will never be sorry that you did!

Our talents, and possessions, in our hands may, or may not, amount to much; but in God’s hand, they will be multiplied without measure, beyond the shadow of a doubt; for your blessing, and God’s glory.  Does God need our possessions?  Not really.  It is because He loves us, that He invites us to bring what we have to Him, in order that we might be blessed.

Why not give Him what you have in your hands, today. When He blesses it there will not be room enough to store your blessings!  But above all, He will receive all the honor and the glory, which are rightfully His!
