The LORD said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him, “Raise your eyes now, and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward; for all the land that you see I will give to you and to your offspring forever. I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth; so that if one can count the dust of the earth, your offspring also can be counted. Rise up, walk through the length and the breadth of the land for I will give it to you.” So Abram moved his tent, and came and settled by the oaks of Mamre, which are at Hebron, and there he built an altar to the LORD. Genesis 12: 14-18, NRSV
Lord, we look to You for guidance. We know that You will lead us into all truth, in the name of Jesus; Amen.
This is our third day journeying with Abram, and we have seen him three days in a row, at an altar! I believe this is mighty impressive! Whatever else Abram is, or is not, he is a worshipper! This is going to be a godsend! Let us look at the blessing God pronounces on Abram this time. It is obviously the same covenant, but there are additional elements that were not mentioned at first. I wonder if God is revealing the fullness of the covenant to Abram as he can “bear it.” Sometimes, if we are given too much information all at once, we could become overwhelmed. Jesus said to His disciples, “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now” (John 16: 12). God has promised, and He is faithful, not to give us more than we can bear, neither bad nor good!
That is very important to know, because it means we must keep on listening! Perhaps the greatest portion of what God has in store for you has not yet been revealed! Do not forget, that He has plans for you! They are good plans; for “your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope” (Jeremiah 29: 11). Keep reading the Word, gentlemen! For those who are married, or planning to get married, you are the priest of your household! God will reveal His will to you, with the hope that you will share it with your family; listen well, so that you can deliver a faithful message! God is depending on you!
God told Abram to “raise your eyes,” and look to the four corners of the earth. Because everything that you see I am going to give to you and your children forever! You know men, society may try to limit your vision. Especially if you are from particular ethnic groups society may try to control your sphere of influence. But this does not have to be, if you are listening to the voice of God! Today He is telling you, raise your eyes. You can do much more than you believe. You have been looking down too long! It is time to lift your eyes to the hills where your help is coming from. Remember yesterday’s message, “when in danger look to God!” When you are on the verge of an important decision, look to God! When you find yourself between a rock and a hard place, look to God!
Then, he told him to Rise up, walk through the length and breadth of the land! This sounds like a call to higher ground! As you walk claim your territory! Ask for what you want! God wants to give you a full life! Ask Him for it!
These concepts that I have shared with you today are not about material riches. The inner-man must first be cared for. If riches come as a result of your taking charge of your life; so be it! but first take care of you. Take back your God-given rights as husbands, and fathers, and respectable members of society. These are rights that God gave you at creation. Reclaim them, in Jesus’ name.!
