David Prays To The Lord – Part 3

For You have made Your people Israel Your very own people forever; and You, O LORD, have become their God.  “Now, O LORD God, the word which You have spoken concerning Your servant and concerning his house, establish it forever and do as You have said.  So let Your name be magnified forever, saying, ‘The LORD of hosts, is the God over Israel.’  And let the house of Your servant David be established before You.  For You, O LORD of hosts, God of Israel, have revealed this to Your servant saying, ‘I will build You a house.’  Therefore Your servant has found it in his heart to pray this prayer to You.  And now O Lord GOD, You are God, and Your words are true, and You have promised this goodness to Your servant.  Now therefore, let it please You to bless the house of Your servant that it may continue before You forever; for You O Lord GOD have spoken it, and with Your blessing, let the house of Your servant be blessed forever.”  2 Samuel 7: 24-29, NKJV.

My Lord, and my God, in the name of Jesus, we come to You.  Please guide us in the study of Your Word, for Christ’s sake.  Amen

Today we finalize our study on the prayer of David.  In these last verses, I invite You to consider an aspect of prayer which we seldom utilize:  Claiming the promises that are found in the Word of God!  How many of us, in prayer, repeat back to God, His own Words, and claim them?  Perhaps we feel we do not have the right to do this, but we do!  If the Word of God is His expressed will, why would we not claim it?  When God says something to us in His Word, and we repeat it back to Him; and say, God, it was You who said it, I believed it; now please fulfill it; God is well pleased!  We are expressing  faith in Him; that He will not go back on His Word!  “And without faith, it is impossible to please God…” (Hebrews 11: 6)!

Now, O LORD God, the word which You have spoken concerning Your servant and concerning his house, establish it forever and do as You have saidSo let Your name be magnified forever, saying, ‘The LORD of hosts, is the God over Israel.’  And let the house of Your servant David be established before You.  For You, O LORD of hosts, God of Israel, have revealed this to Your servant saying, ‘I will build You a house.’  Therefore Your servant has found it in his heart to pray this prayer to You.  I love the way David knows that He can be open and honest with His Friend!  LORD, the only reason we are having this conversation, is because You said it, and I believed it!

Many of us (let me speak for myself), would be trying hard not to appear “too ambitious,” in claiming our blessing; without stopping to think that it is God who made the promise in the first place!  It was God who had promised David the throne for perpetuity (1 Kings 9: 5).  So if David was sounding ambitious, it was because God had made a rather ambitious promise to him; and all David, who trusted the LORD with all His heart, was doing, was claiming what the LORD had promised him!  David said, Lord, it was You who gave me a revelation of things to come.  You said You would build me a house!  LORD, please let me see that promise fulfilled!

“And now O Lord GOD, You are God, and Your words are true… for You O Lord GOD have spoken it, and with Your blessing, let the house of Your servant be blessed forever.”  Because You, as God, cannot lie; all I ask, is that You give me what You promised; that You bless what You have given me; and it will be blessed forevermore!

Dear friends, the next time you pray, be honest and open, with God.  Then sit down and be prepared to receive from Him what He has promised, with His blessings upon it!
