When His Kingdom Comes!

Your kingdom come.  Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.  Matthew 6: 10, NRSV.

Dear LORD, as we study a portion of the prayer that Jesus taught His disciples; we pray that You might be present to give us insight into Your holy Word.  In Jesus’ name we pray; Amen.

I wonder what heaven must be like!  I read about what it will look like, yet my mind can never fully comprehend all that God has in store for those who love Him, and want to be with Him (1 Corinthians 2: 9)!  Today, however, we want to probe a bit into what kind of atmosphere will reign in heaven!  Perhaps we can draw some conclusions from some statements Jesus made, and some of the things He did while here on earth.  Our launching board for this study will be the second half of our Scripture for today:  “Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”

God’s will is that we be one (John 17: 20, 21).  For this reason Jesus said: “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and a house divided against a house falls” (Luke 11: 17).  Therefore, Satan and the fallen angels were cast out, when they rebelled (Revelation 12: 7-9).  Nothing will be permitted in heaven, that threatens to interrupt its peace!

God’s will is that we become like little children (Mark 10: 15).  What would the world be like without children?  Their loving, accepting, trusting, forgiving, attitudes, pervade their surroundings; and fills the air with the sweetness of their innocence!  Their love and acceptance is unconditional; and we would do ourselves a favor to learn from them.

God’s will is that we prosper and be in good health (3 John 2).  Isn’t it wonderful that we will have no need for hospitals, and medicines, because there will be no sickness (Isaiah 35: 5, 6)?  We will need no wheelchairs or walkers.  There will be no need for assisted living, or convalescent homes.  Hallelujah!  Praise God!

God’s will is that we be good one to another (Micah 6: 8), and in His name show justice and mercy!  No advantage will be taken of the weaker members of our society; the truth is, there will be no weak ones!  No social injustice will exist in heaven, because “the government shall be upon His shoulders {Christ’s} (Isaiah 9: 6)!”

God’s will is that we be happy and live forever (John 10: 10; Revelation 21: 4)!  “No more night, no more pain, no more death, never crying again!”  What a blessed day when they have to close down all the funeral parlors, and turn all the cemeteries into flower gardens!  How I long for that day, don’t you?

Some day soon His kingdom will come, and His will will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Let us allow the Lord to get us ready and keep us ready, until He comes in glory!
