…You are My hope, O LORD God; You are my trust from my youth. By You I have been upheld from birth. You are He who took me out of my mother’s womb. My praise shall be continually of You…Do not cast me off in the time of old age; do not forsake me when my strength fails…O God You have taught me from my youth; and to this day I declare Your wondrous works. Now also when I am old and greyheaded, O God, do not forsake me, until I declare Your strength to this generation, Your power to everyone who is to come. Psalm 71: 5, 6, 9, 17, 18, NKJV.
Dear God, like myself, I am sure that there are many, who can say, that from our youth, You have been our God! You have kept us from being destroyed; and now we pray, that in our latter years, You will continue to lead us, and guide us; in Christ’s name we pray. Amen.
You will notice, that I have carefully gone through Psalm 71, and purposely selected all of the verses that had to do with the different phases of our lives (in the womb, at birth, youth, old age)! There has never been a time in the life of any human being, when God has not been close to us, according to the psalmist. God’s love for His children is so powerful, that throughout our lives; in fact, from conception, He has been pursuing us, in order to establish a loving, and saving, relationship with us.
The process of fertilization which leads to the beginning of embryonic development is nothing short of a miracle! God, the Giver of life, oversees the division of cells, and the formation of organs, both internal, and external; and watches with intense interest the entire process from beginning to end!
God is not only interested in our physical development. He is interested in every form of growth that takes place in our lives (emotional, intellectual, spiritual, moral). He is actively engaged in the formation of a new creature; those who are born “of God.” He anxiously watches as the new heart is developing, because He knows that out of it will “spring the issues of life” (Proverbs 4: 23)!
He diligently guides the formation of our lips, because it is not good that “out of the same mouth [should] proceed both blessing and cursing” (James 3: 10).
Special attention is given to their feet, ” ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things’ ” (Romans 10: 15)! They will be busy doing the will of the Father.
Their eyes must be given special attention, lest they be dazzled, and blinded, by the “lust of the eyes” (Revelation 3: 18; 1 John 2: 16).
He will cover their heads with His mitre that they will think only of, “whatever things are true… noble… just… lovely… of good report, if there is any virtue, and if there is anything praiseworthy”… (Philippians 4: 8)!
Finally, the Father will clothe His children with the white raiment of His righteousness (Revelation 3: 18)!
We are the sons and daughters of God. And even to our grey hairs He will be with us!
