You Shall Abide Under The Shadow Of The Almighty!

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. Psalm 91: 1. NKJV

Dear Heavenly Father, we thank you so much for your constant protection over us.  Please stay with us as we study Your holy Word; in the precious name of Jesus.  Amen

I wonder what the psalmist had in mind when he penned the words ”dwelling in the secret place of the most High?”  I like to think of a secret place as a place that is shared only with our closest friends.  Boys will take their best friends up to their tree house.  Young ladies like to take their best friends to their room for a nice chat.  I like to go to a quiet place and share a meal with my special friends.  I am sure that if I had the opportunity to ask each of you what a “secret place” means to you, I would receive a variety of interesting answers.

A shared “secret place” speaks of intimacy.  There is a relationship existing.  This is not just a casual meeting between two people.  These people enjoy each other’s company.  They make plans to meet and spend quality time together.  Can you imagine the Prince of Heaven inviting us to share such a friendship with Him?  This is the way I think about my relationship with the Lord.  He is my best Friend.  I love Him deeply.  I could not think of living without Him.  He is my life, my everything!  He is the great omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, God.  He is the most High!  Yet He treats each of His friends as if we were the only person in the entire universe that He had to care for!  He invites us to His secret place to enjoy fellowship with Him.  What a God!  What a Friend!  When we leave His secret place to go back to the mundane things of life, we leave with the strength we need to continue our journey.  He is never too busy to listen to us.  We have His undivided attention twenty-four hours a day.  Isn’t that wonderful?

What is even more wonderful is the fact that He never grows weary of us!  In the previous Psalm the psalmist declares:  ”Lord, Thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations[!]”  Yet He is always happy to receive us!

But there is more.  It is our privilege to ”abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”  Have you ever thought about how close you have to get to someone to be covered with their shadow?  I tried to get some scientific data on this but was not very successful.  (If there are any scientists among us-I would love to hear from you.  Your input could shed some valuable light on the limitless love of God!)  Of course it would depend on the time of day, also the height of the person, and some other factors.  But I do not believe that we can walk very far from a person and yet be covered with their shadow.  And what a difference some shade can make when the sun is at its hottest!

If we are to “abide” under the shadow of the Almighty, it will require a closer walk with Him.  We have nothing to lose and everything to gain by drawing closer to the Lord.  If you have never met Him, I would love for you to get to know Him.  Today is the perfect day to begin.  Your life will never be the same!  If I can be of any help to you in getting to know my Friend, please contact me.  Blessings!
