What An Inheritance!

This resurrection life you received from God is not a timid, grave-tending life. It’s adventurously expectant, greeting God with a childlike, “What’s next Papa?” God’s spirit touches our spirits and confirms who we really are. We know who he is, and we know who we are:  Father and children. And we know we are going to get what’s coming to us – an unbelievable inheritance! We go through exactly what Christ goes through. If we go through the hard times with him, then we’re certainly going to go through the good times with him! Romans 8: 15-17, Message.

Dear God, we are so thrilled that You are here at the place of study to welcome us into Your presence, and teach us Your will. We thank You for this, in the precious name of Jesus. Amen.

Many times the life of the Christian is seen as something dull and boring. The things that should bring us joy and satisfaction are oftentimes perceived as fraught with frustration. As a result, we come to the conclusion that we must come up with extraordinary programs, and innovative techniques, to add a spark of excitement to our Christian life. But where does the problem really lie? Is our perception at fault, or is it our experience that needs redefining? From the tone of our Scripture, the life of the Christian consists of, “an unbelievable inheritance,” and is, “adventurously expectant!” So let us take a few minutes to see if we can find where the dis-connect is occurring, and how we can re-connect.

First of all, the Christian life begins with a resurrection! Resurrection implies a re-birth. At birth, the process of learning takes place. A baby learns to eat, to walk, to talk, to dress him or her(self). He or she begin to acquire certain likes and dislikes. They need to be trained to like some things that they may not naturally like. Moms learn to be very innovative during this stage, in an attempt for baby to develop healthy habits. We know that it will be easier for them to learn; than to unlearn, certain habits. So we try to help them to develop healthy habits from the very beginning, in the hope, that when they are grown, living healthily will not be a drudgery but a delight!

The Christian life is a family affair. Early on, we learn that it is in our best interest, and for our own good, to ask all along the way, ““What’s next Papa?” Because Papa knows best! We are His children, and all of His instructions to us are for our well-being. The sooner we learn this, the happier we will be!

We come to realize that we are heirs and heiresses of, “an unbelievable inheritance!” One that is, “incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for [us]” (1 Peter 1: 4, NKJV). We learn that we are not citizens of earth; we are merely pilgrims!

Finally, we accept that there will be good days and bad days in the life of the Christian. The bad days will not last forever, but one day the good days will –  because it will be heaven at last! If we walked with Jesus here on earth, one day, we will dwell with Him forever, “in the earth made new.”

We will experience this when, “God’s spirit touches our spirits and confirms who we really are.
