Tell Others Of His Goodness!

What shall I render to the LORD for all His benefits toward me? I will take up the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the LORD. I will pay my vows to the LORD now in the presence of all His people. Psalm 116: 12-14, NKJV.

Gracious God, there is so much to thank You for! Please help us as we sit in Your presence to learn the true spirit of thanksgiving. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

There is a little chorus that goes something like this:  “Count your blessings name them one by one; count your many blessings; see what God has done. Count your blessings name them one by one, and it will surprise you what the LORD has done!” That is so true. When we begin thanking Him for one blessing, we suddenly become aware of just how much God has blessed us!

Many of us believe that when God has blessed us, He expects us to show our gratitude to Him by doing something extraordinary. So we make promises to Him that are so grandiose, that even while we are making them, we are wondering how we will ever keep them! However, the psalmist is suggesting that the best way to thank the LORD, is to bear testimony of His goodness in the presence of all His people! Let us look at some of the benefits of this practice.

1.) Before we can witness, we have to experience. I will take up the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the LORD. That is the greatest blessing of all! We drink of the cup of salvation. and then we can share it with others! Remember one of my favorite sayings? We can only share what we possess. Psalm 34 invites us to “taste and see that the LORD is good;” then we will be able to testify to the fact that, “Blessed is the man [woman, boy, and girl] that trust in Him! After we have been saved, we can invite someone else to come to the LORD that we now serve!

2.) “Call upon the name of the Lord.” Many of us first hear about the LORD, and decide to give Him a try. God encourages us to do this. In the same way that He encouraged the woman at the well to try the “water” that He was offering, is the same way He invites you and me, not only to know Him from someone else’s testimony, but to have our own experience.

3.) Now you are ready to “pay [your] vows to the LORD…  in the presence of all His people.” When Jesus cast “Legion” out of the demoniac of Gadara, or Gerasa, as another gospel records it, the people of the town “were afraid” and asked Jesus to leave their village. Once restored, and in his sound mind, the demoniac wanted to go wherever Jesus went. But Jesus sent him home to go and tell others what “great things God [had] done for [him.]” Scripture tells us that the next time Jesus was in the area, people from the Decapolis (ten cities!) went out to see Him (Mark 5: 1-20; 7: 31-37)! They had gone from rejection to acceptance, because one man was willing to “pay [His] vows to the LORD in the presence of all His people[!]”

The next time you receive a blessing from the LORD, and you want to show your gratitude to Him, tell somebody about it! They will receive a blessing, and you will be doubly blessed!

We would be happy to have you share your testimony at the Prayer Request Chapel!
