It Is God Who Gives Us The Victory!

Now I know that the LORD rescues his anointed king. He will answer him from his holy heaven and rescue him by his great power.  Give victory to our king, O LORD! Answer our cry for help. Psalm 20: 6-9, NLT

Heavenly Father, as we approach the mercy seat today, we do it with great humility. We are aware of the great God and King that You are. We need a word from You today, as we enter Your study. In the blessed name of Jesus we pray. Amen and Amen.

Today we will be continuing with our study on Psalm 20. Let us not lose sight of the fact that this psalm represents the prayers of the people for their king, as he goes out to battle. We are also claiming the fulfillment of this prayer in our own lives, as it applies to the personal battles that we face today.

Because God is no respecter of persons, we can be sure that He will come to the rescue of a pauper, as faithfully as we would, to the rescue, of a prince. Regardless of where you are on the social ladder, or where you fit in with the status quo; rest assured, that God rescues His people! We are not at the mercy of any person, or system. The child of God need not entertain a victim’s mentality.

Some nations boast of their chariots and horses, but we boast in the name of the Lord our God. Those nations will fall down and collapse, but we will rise up and stand firm. When you are in a perilous situation, it is important who your allies are. Not any help will do. Some “helps” can make your situation worse. Lot and his household were taken captive by the armies of the five eastern kings who had formed an alliance, headed by Chedorlaomer (Genesis 14: 1-12). When Abram received word, he rallied his “homemade army” of three-hundred-and-eighteen soldiers, and went out against this apparently “invincible” army; defeated them, and rescued Lot and his household; and brought him back with all his possessions (13-17). That was only possible, because God hears the cry of His people from His holy heavens, and rescues them!

Secular history also bares us out on this premise, when, during the period of the Reformation, the English Navy was able to put to flight the, “up to that moment” undefeated, Spanish Armada, because of the mysterious rain storm that arose, and favored their maneuvers. God was at work to preserve His faithful people, and His saving Truth.  The Spaniards had depended upon the invincibility of the Spanish Armada, but Queen Elizabeth I, of England, had put her trust in God! In honor of this victory they minted the phrase, “God blew and they were scattered,” on a medal (www.elizabethi.org). They were convinced that God had fought on their behalf. Not even the “gates of hell,” can prevail against those who are called by His name.

While we pray for the leaders of our nation, we also pray for leaders of other nations of the world. Our prayer is that the Mighty God will give victory to those leaders who put their trust in Him, in order to be a blessing to others. May God hear the cry of His people, as well as the cry of their leaders – and may He answer us when we cry for help!

NOTE:  For the next two weeks some of our devotionals will be published later than usual. We regret any inconvenience this may cause.
