Living In Hope!

And in that day you will say: “O LORD, I will praise You; though You were angry with me, Your anger is turned away, and You comfort me. Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; for YAH, the LORD, is my strength and song; He also has become my salvation.’ ” Therefore with joy you will draw water fom the wells of salvation. And in that day you will say: “ Praise the LORD, call upon His name; declare His deeds among the peoples, make mention that His name is exalted. Sing to the LORD, for He has done excellent things; this is known in all the earth. Cry out and shout, O inhabitant of Zion, for great is the Holy One of Israel in your midst!” Isaiah 12: 1-6, NKJV.

Gracious God, we thank You for hope! There would be no life, unless we had hope. Therefore, please help us to keep our eyes on You, until we see You face to face! Please bless our study today. In the precious name of Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.

You may have noticed that our Scripture for today is comprised of two psalms of three verses each; and each psalm  begins with the phrase, “And in that day you will say.” It is obviously speaking of some time in the future. It is good to look forward to the future with hope. It is part of a healthy lifestyle to be hopeful. Speaking of better days to come, the prophet said:  “And the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with singing, with everlasting joy on their heads. They shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away” (Isaiah 35: 10, emphasis provided).

Israel looked forward to the time when joy would be everlasting, and sorrow and sighing would be a thing of the past! They would no longer be surrounded by enemies. Wars would cease. There would be plenty to eat. The infirmities that were characteristic of the “old life,” lameness, dumbness, blindness, would all be swept away. Man and nature would once again be in harmony. And the lamb and the lion could eat together and relax together! The sins that called forth the anger of the LORD would have passed, and they would be enjoying the  comfort of His salvation!  They would be drinking from springs of living water, from “wells of salvation! Yes, they were looking forward to life with hope!

God not only saves, He is our salvation. It was pastor Alejandro Bullon who I heard refer to Jesus as “Salvation.” I believe he said, salvation is a Person! He was referring to the conversation between Jesus and Zacchaeus. Jesus told Zacchaeus when He saw him in the tree trying to get a better look at Him, that He would visit him at his home, that day. During their visit, Zacchaeus shared his testimony with the Savior. He told Him about all the changes that had come to his life. The things he used to do, he did them no more. He spoke of restoring the excess money that he had wrongfully taken from others, at a rate of four times, what he had taken from them. In other words, his life had been completely changed. After listening to him the Savior replied:  “Today, salvation has come to this house . . . ” (Luke 19: 9). Whenever Jesus enters your life, salvation has come to you!

The rest of the psalm is a song of thanksgiving. Like Zacchaeus, once we have received the Lord into our lives we want the world to know what He has done for us. Our life becomes a constant song! We cannot help but tell everyone who will listen, how much we love Him, in the hope that they too, will come to know Him, fall in love with Him, and serve Him! We shout aloud His praises and tell others that in our midst, there is One who is great and holy!

If you have not met Jesus yet; if He has not come to your house, it is because He is outside waiting for You to invite Him in. And when He does, “in that day you will say:”  ‘Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised, for today, Salvation has come to my house!’ “
