Right – In The Eyes Of The LORD

Asa did what was good and right in the eyes of the LORD his God, for he removed the altars of the foreign gods and the high places, and broke down the sacred pillars and cut down the wooden images. He commanded Judah to seek the LORD God of their fathers, and to observe the law and the commandment. He also removed the high places and the incense altars from all the cities of Judah, and the kingdom was quiet under him. And he built fortified cities in Judah, for the land had rest; he had no war in those years, because the LORD had given him rest. 2 Chronicles 14: 2-6, NKJV.

Gracious God, please help us to be wise in seeking rest. May we realize that true rest is found only in You. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.

As human beings we are often divided on issues, which, by their very nature, should not cause any divisions. Take for instant truth, Truth is One. Jesus said “I am the .  .  . Truth” (John 14: 6). Nevertheless, we find, that to different people, truth means different things. To some, it is absolute, to others, it is relative.

Another area of division, perhaps even more divisive than the issue of truth, is that of, “What is right?” Arguments on this issue usually begin this way:  “Well, under such and such circumstances, that would be right, but, under these other circumstances .  .  . ”

Thank God, in Christ, there is only one Truth, and in Christ, there is only one Right. What I am trying to say, is, if you and I are having problems knowing what is truth, or doing what is right, you and I need to go to Jesus.

Our Scripture for today begins by saying, “Asa did what was good and right in the eyes of the LORD his God[.]” Then it continues to tell us what He did. We can conclude, then, that what he did, was what God wanted him to do. He obeyed the Word of the LORD.

In our day and age, there are many voices, all trying to get our attention. Sometimes, like the other voice, in the Garden of Eden, their messages are a mixture of truth and lies. The only way to be sure what is the right thing to do, is to go back to the message from God, study it well, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and with an open mind – and allow God to speak directly to our hearts.

God will oftentimes confirm the veracity of the message by showing His approval. Our Scripture for today concludes, “the land had rest; he had no war in those years, because the LORD had given him rest.

Could it be that our world is in such a state of restlessness, because we are all living according to our version of what is truth, and what is right? May God help us, to go to Him and learn what is, right in the eyes of the LORD.” And when He reveals it to us – by His grace – and in His strength – let us do according to His will.
