He is Creator and Redeemer!

By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth. He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap; He lays up the deep in storehouses. Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast. Psalm 33; 6-9, NKJV.

Gracious God, as we enter the study of Your Word, may Your Holy Spirit draw near to us and bless our study. In the name of Jesus Christ we humbly pray. Amen.

Perhaps you have noticed that I left the first half of this psalm, for the end of our study. It was not planned this way. For the past eight days (on Sabbath, July 17, we made a detour from the psalm, but the theme was the same), we have gone from talking about what God is doing, and has done, for His people, throughout history; that God deserves our praise; and finally, today, we will meditate on, why God does what He does, and why He is worthy of our worship and praise.

Our Scripture for today speaks of God as Creator, and how, He created everything – by the Word of His mouth.  Now, I invite you to go with me to the book of Revelation. We will look at portions from the fourth and fifth chapters of this book. First, let us take a glimpse into Heaven’s Throne Room. There is incredible praise taking place inside. We will listen to John the revelator, as he describes the scene. We will also find out the reason for such extraordinary worship. Chapter Four:

“Immediately I was in the Spirit; and behold, a throne set in heaven, and One sat on the throne.  .  . Around the throne were twenty-four thrones, and on the thrones I saw twenty-four elders sitting, clothed in white robes; and they had crowns of gold on their heads.  .  . Before the throne there was a sea of glass, like crystal. And in the midst of the throne, and around the throne, were four living creatures full of eyes in front and in back.  .  . And they do not rest day or night, saying:   “ Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, Who was and is and is to come!” Whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to Him who sits on the throne, who lives forever and ever, the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying:  “You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and by Your will they exist and were created” (Revelation 4: 2, 4, 6, 8b-11). Chapter Five:

“Then I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the scroll and to loose its seals?” And no one in heaven or on the earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll, or to look at it.  .  . And I looked, and behold, in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent out into all the earth. Then He came and took the scroll out of the right hand of Him who sat on the throne.  .  . And they sang a new song, saying:  “ You are worthy to take the scroll, and to open its seals; for You were slain, and have redeemed us to God by Your blood out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation, and have made us kings and priests to our God; and we shall reign on the earth.” Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne, the living creatures, and the elders; and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice:  “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom, and strength and honor and glory and blessing!” And every creature which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, I heard saying:  “ Blessing and honor and glory and power be to Him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb, forever and ever!” Then the four living creatures said, “Amen!” And the twenty-four elders fell down and worshiped Him who lives forever and ever. (Revelation 5: 2, 3, 6, 7, 9-14). Emphasis supplied.

The narration in these two chapters is so rich, that I did not want to cut too much out of it. I wanted you to enjoy the beauty of expression, and allow it to speak to your hearts. More importantly, I wanted You to hear what these worshipers were saying. The depth of their gratitude and praise stems from what Jesus Christ has done for His creatures! He created us, and then He turned around and redeemed us! These beings who are watching from afar break forth into praise when they see the Great Creator God, become the Sacrificial Lamb! No wonder no one in heaven or earth, the sea, or beneath the sea, can restrain themselves. They feel compelled to praise the Creator-Redeemer!

Brothers and sisters, can you imagine what a difference it would make in our world if everyone was worshiping God as Creator? If people did not see themselves as their own gods, or at the very least, if everyone felt, that he or she owed his or her existence to the Creator? It is no small wonder why the Adversary has done his best in trying to minimize the importance of God as the Life-giver. The Theory of Evolution is one of His most effective methods.

Nevertheless, thanks be to God, there are those, who, here on earth, worship Him as Creator, Redeemer, and Lord of our lives! One of these days we are going to be a part of that praise team that John saw in heaven, and together, with the saved of all the ages, we are going to make heaven ring with our praise! By God’s grace, make plans to be there!

  1. Dearest sister Mabel,
How wonderful it is to praise His name. I have often thought that if humankind could only see how great is our God, that we would humble ourselves, repent and turn from our pride. We would be able to trust God as only He should be. We would see His hand in all that we experience and we would hear His glorious voice, that guides, teaches, comforts and above all loves.
Even I long for that knowledge. As Paul said, I pray that we may know the depth, the length, the width and that height of the love that surpasses all understanding.
May you and your family be surrounded by it.
Once again, I thank you for your perserverance and faithfulness in fulfilling His purposes. May He grant you all the strength and courage you need.
