This I Know!

When I cry out to You, then my enemies will turn back; this I know, because God is for me. Psalm 56: 9, NKJV.

Dear God, it is a good thing to live our lives in certainty! The psalmist knew that You were on his side! He knew that You cared for him. Please help us to live in that same certainty, because we know You! In the blessed name of Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.

This is a statement of trust. David knew Who he was taking about. He knew God’s power to save to the uttermost! He knew that his enemies were no match for God! He had seen God in action! Therefore he could say without vacilation, “this I know, because God is for me.

There are two sides to this coin. This kind of trust comes from experience, and experience from trials, and some trials can be very severe, very harsh! I have said several times in the past, that if God had asked me if I wanted to go through certain trials, I would have told him no! Not because I did not want the experience, and the knowledge of Him, that comes as a result of such trials, but because I did not believe that I could bear them. So, in His mercy, knowing that “His grace” would be “sufficient,” He permitted the trial, and provided the grace. As a result, I got a closer look at Him, I got to know Him better, and I was strengthened by His grace!

David knew that it was not his “playing the madman,” that had kept Achish, the king of the Philistines, from killing him. What would have kept this heathen king from killing his enemy? Especially one with a fame like David’s, “And the servants of Achish said unto him, Is not this David the king of the land? did they not sing one to another of him in dances, saying, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands” (1 Samuel 21: 11)? He knew that it was only because he had called upon his God, when he saw himself in the hands of his enemies, and that God had made them “turn back” (change their minds about killing him). This he knew, because God was on his side!

What about you my friend? When you see yourself headed for a sure disaster, and then, out of the clear blue skies, “deliverance comes,” you know not how! Do you count it as a mere coincidence, or, like David, do you see in it the hand of God, turning back your enemies?

When you have spent the last of your paycheck, and all of a sudden you become aware of a bill that must be paid before the next payday. Then, the following day, a check that you were not expecting, as soon, arrives in the mail. Do you know, that this has happened, because, God is for you

When you are feeling as if all your efforts are in vain, and a situation that you thought you had under control just crumbles, and all seems to be going from bad to worse – then, without explanation –  the tide changes, and the disaster that you were fearing, never happened, and suddenly, all is wellDo you know, that it is because God heard your prayers and reversed your circumstances (turned back the catastrophe), and turned it into a conquest?

When your humanity has no control, over your circumstances, and Divinity takes over and accomplishes the impossible, are you prepared, to say like the psalmist, “this I know, because God is for me[!]”
