Press And Go

And the LORD said to Moses, “Why do you cry to Me? Tell the children of Israel to go forward. . .” Genesis 14: 15

Dear God of our salvation. Please enable our hearts to hear Your voice, and to be obedient to Your leading. In the precious name of Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.

Yesterday I shared some of the lessons I have learned from the stoplights that I pass when I am out walking. That message was entitled Press and Wait. Today our message is entitled Press and Go. The first week or so of walking I was in training. God was teaching me some vital lessons and my book of instructions were the lights.

As I mentioned previously, if I was on my way back home, weary from going up and down hill, waiting was not a problem, but at the beginning of the journey, when I was all energized and anxious to reach my goal, I did not want to wait. Because of  my impatience I made some dangerous moves. Shaken because of my close encounter with a vehicle, I was now ready to listen to what the Lord had to say. He taught me the value of Pressing and Waiting. Then it was time to learn that there is also a time to Press and Go.

The wise man said:  “To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven” (Ecclesiastes 3: 1). As human beings we dwell in time. We make our plans based on time. We depend on time to keep moving in order for us to reach our goals which are time oriented. We coin phrases such as :  “Time is of the essence.” “Time is money.” Time waits on no man.” And there is logic to these statements. But what is crucial is knowing what time it is! The time to Press and Wait, should not be confused with the time to Press and Go.

There are occasions that we will press our petition to the Throne of Grace, and God will say to us as He said to Moses, “Why do you cry to Me? .  .  . go forward.” When we know His will and are reluctant to do it we oftentimes ask God questions that we already know the answer to; perhaps in the hope that He will change His mind and tell us what we want to hear. So we hesitate to go forward.

But it is precisely at these times – when we hesitate to do what we know we should do, either because we are afraid of the outcome, or we believe that we are attempting an impossible task, that Press and Go is necessary. These are the very times that we receive the most profound revelations, and experience the greatest spiritual growth spurts. That is because we are walking by faith and not by sight. Therefore, we are completely dependent on God. The next time you come to a fork in the road Press your petition before God, and if He bids you Go – Step out in faith and leave the results with Him!
