Happy Are You! – Part 3

Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. (Matthew 5:6, NKJV).

Holy Father, as we approach Your Mercy Seat, we feel a great need to be more like You. May the sweetness of Your character become ours as we rest in You this day. In the blessed name of Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.

The beatitude for today is the third link in the Happiness Code and speaks about the meek. From the Greek praeis, meaning gentle, meek, mild. From the Hebrew anaw, ani, meaning humble, meek, poor, afflicted. Much is said about meekness in the Word of God. Perhaps here and in other sacred writings are the only places where meekness or humility is given a place of prominence. It is not a trait of character that is promoted or celebrated or boasted about in our world. “Heroes” are not known or applauded for their meekness.

Yet the Greatest Hero who ever lived was also the meekest Man who ever lived. His name is Jesus! Here again we find the contrast between the world’s standards and the standards espoused by those who live according to the Happiness Code.  Moses is referred to in the following terms “Now the man Moses was very humble, more than all men who were on the face of the earth” (Numbers 12:3). God Himself buried and resurrected him (Read Deuteronomy 34:5-7; Matthew 17:1-3), What a honor given to the meekest among men! The only Man more meek than Moses was the Prince of heaven Jesus Christ the Messiah.

Of Jesus we read the following:  “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross” (Philippians 2:5-8. Emphasis provided).

God the Father honored God the Son “Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name,  that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (9-11).

The meek receive the earth as their inheritance. At the return of Jesus, His kingdom that will “have no end” will be established here on the earth made new “and He shall reign forever and ever.” Moses and all other meek souls will inherit the earth made new. “In heaven’s eyes” the meek are not losers. “In heaven’s eyes” they are of great value. In fact “in heaven’s eyes” they are priceless. They have been bought with the blood of the Lamb! Happy Are You!
