My Rock Has Trained My Hands For War!

Blessed be the Lord my Rock, who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle—My lovingkindness and my fortress, my high tower and my deliverer, my shield and the One in whom I take refuge, Who subdues my people under me. Psalm 144:1, 2.

Dear God, please bless us today as we take another look at The Rock, through the lense of Your Holy Spirit. The love and power of The Rock, has taught us that we are not victims; that we can become “more than conquerors through Him who loves us”! Teach us how to cling to You until we gain the victory, in the name of Jesus the Christ. Amen.

One of my favorite Bible texts is the first verse of this passage of Scripture:  Blessed be the Lord My Rock, who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle[.]” I have chosen this text as my very own because there have been times when the Adversary seemed bent on destroying me. It was during one of those seasons in my life that God revealed this text to me, reminding me that I was not a victim! Then He taught me how to fight back!

What about you – Have you ever felt overwhelmed by the difficulties you face in life? Have you ever cried out, Oh Lord, how long? All around you the problems never seem to go away. As soon as you thought you had been relieved of one problem another problem came along.

We are not alone in this dilemma. Every day there are thousands, if not millions, of people who face great difficulties. Relational difficulties, financial difficulties, spiritual difficulties, emotional difficulties, difficulties of guilt and fear. Homelessness, sickness, drug addictions, are all a part of the problems that we face as members of the human race.

In spite of this unhappy situation some of the bravest people in the world ought to be Christians. After all, we are children of the Most High God, and Jesus, His Son, is our big brother! Add to that the fact that Jesus has never lost a battle! And He has promised to fight our battles for us. Listen as He encourages Israel of old:

“And he said, “Listen, all you of Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you, King Jehoshaphat! Thus says the Lord to you: ‘Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s’ ” (2 Chronicles 20:15).

Thanks be to God, for them that put their trust in the Lord, there is hope! You can put your name in this text and claim it as your own! The multitude in your experience and mine, might not be people, but problems. Whatever the case, The Rock has our back! For “with His stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53: 6d)!

In some of our past devotionals on The Rock, we have seen Him as my fortress, my high tower and my deliverer, my shield and the One in whom I take refuge, Who subdues my (enemies) under me.

Tomorrow in our final devotional on this topic we will look at Him as our Lovingkindness.
