Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, being tempted for forty days by the devil. And in those days He ate nothing, and afterward, when they had ended, He was hungry. Luke 4:1,2.
Dear God, please help us to understand that when we are led by You, we will be able to defeat all of the wiles of the devil. Others may not understand us, but may we not give up our walk with you. Thank You dear Lord, in the matchless name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
Yesterday in our devotional, Opinions Matter, we talked about Jesus preaching His first sermon, and how the religious leaders complained! Even though everyone was moved by His message, the only thing the leaders could comment about was who His father was. And they were so wrong. He did not have an earthly father. He was the Son of God!
Paul made a true statement when he said, spiritual things are “spiritually discerned” (1 Corinthians 2:14). They could not appreciate the message of Jesus because He was led of the Spirit! They were not. He was spiritual they were not! He even explained to them why they had tried to kill Him, on the Sabbath, because He told them the truth (Luke 4:28, 29)!
They weren’t even aware of who their father was, until Jesus exposed them: “Why do you not understand My speech? Because you are not able to listen to My word. You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. . .He who is of God hears God’s words; therefore you do not hear, because you are not of God.” ‘ ” (John 8:44, 47).
Have you ever found yourself trying to share spiritual things with some people but they do not seem to be getting it? Once you know that you are sharing faithfully what God has laid on your heart, do not doubt yourself. You could be talking to someone who might not be spiritual!
