How Long, Lord? – Part 2

How long, O Lord? Will You forget me forever? How long will You hide Your face from me? How long shall I take counsel in my soul, Having sorrow in my heart daily? How long will my enemy be exalted over me? Psalm 13:1, 2.

Our God and Heavenly Father, Our Friend, our Burden-bearer, here we are again in Your Holy Presence, just wanting to sit at Your feet and be blessed! We feel so protected, so loved, so cared for, when we are with You, that we can hardly wait for Your kingdom of glory to come when we will never be separated from You! “Even so, come Lord Jesus!” In Your Holy name we pray. Amen and Amen!

This is really the first day that we will actually be sharing thoughts on this new Scripture. Yesterday, we barely introduced our study as another point of view expressed in Scripture, regarding issues of suffering in the great controversy between good and evil. In our prior study the psalmist’s emphasis was more on the ways of escape than on the dangers he faced.

In this study David is being affected by what he is feeling. Remember that the caveat I made in our prior study was that in the time of trouble the enemy tries to make us believe that God is not there. I also said that that is when God is closer than ever! We cannot always trust our feelings in the controversy! But there are things, that as children of God we should know about God, because we “know Him by name”!

Have you ever felt forgotten by God? Have you also felt so understood by God, that you dared to ask Him, how long? It is so important that we have such an intimate relationship with our Heavenly Parent that we are not afraid to express our true feelings to Him!

Two major errors that many commit in times of trouble:  relying on our feelings and wasting precious energy, wondering about what our enemy is going to think of our suffering (we will see this as our study progresses)! Time that could and should be dedicated to prayer, soul searching and claiming the promises of God is wasted on things over which we have no control!

The time comes when we cannot even see the face of God! And we begin to believe that God has hidden His face from us. In reality, what has happened is that the cloud of doubt has darkened our vision, and the Son of Righteousness cannot get through to us, with the “healing in His wings”, that we are so desperately needing.

This conversation will continue.
