When God is With Us . . . Part 2

And the patriarchs, becoming envious, sold Joseph into Egypt. But God was with him and delivered him out of all his troubles, and gave him favor and wisdom in the presence of Pharaoh, king of Egypt; and he made him governor over Egypt and all his house. Acts 7:9, 10

Heavenly Father, the giver and preserver of our dreams, help us never to stop dreaming. When we dream we learn to depend wholly on You for the fulfillment of those dreams. May we live in this dependence. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.

Yesterday we mentioned several circumstances that although they are considered negative can actually be the means that God chooses to use to prepare us for the fulfillment of our dreams.

God took Joseph out of the Pit where his brothers had thrown him in an effort to bury him and his dreams, “Then they said to one another, “Look, this dreamer is coming! Come therefore, let us now kill him and cast him into some pit . . . We shall see what will become of his dreams” (Genesis 37:19, 20)!

Some of us may be in the pit right now. It does not feel good. In the pit you are buried, helpless and hopeless. You are not going anywhere, or at least, so it seems. But while in the pit it will do us good to look around and take note that there is no water in the pit to drown us or our dream, “Then they took him and cast him into a pit. And the pit was empty; there was no water in it” (24, emphasis provided). So even in the pit, there is something to give God thanks for:  Even in a place of potential death, you are still alive. Because God is with you!

As you sit in that pit if you can remember that the pit is not your destination, just a boot camp experience in your preparation for the fulfillment of your dreams, then you won’t feel too bad. If you can remember Romans 8:31, 32 “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?

Do not be afraid, for God is with you.
