“And His name will be called Wonderful” (Isaiah 6:9b).
Dear Heavenly Father, it is with a humble joy that we remember that Your only begotten Son became a baby in order that we might get a close up look at You, and be re-made in Your image. Please do not give up working on us until we not only look like You, but become One with You. In the Name of Jesus Christ I pray. Amen.
As we study the Names of Jesus, we are going to discover that every Name of our Redeemer is given for a special season in our lives. His name will be called [upon]. My insert. I will be sharing my personal application of each name, and which season of my life they apply. I am sure you will also find this exercise drawing you closer to the Savior, as you think about the fact that He thought about you, and came prepared to be there for you, whenever you needed Him!
Let us take a look at the “name” Wonderful from different sources:
WONDERFUL 1. Capable of exciting wonder: ASTONISHING. 2. Excellent: extraordinary (Webster’s II New College Dictionary, Third Edition).
(Hebrew) Pele‘; from pâla’, a miracle”—marvelous thing, wonder (-ful, -fully).
A masculine noun meaning a wonder, a miracle, a marvel. This word is used to represent something unusual or extraordinary. Except for Lamentations 1:9. KJV, this term always appears in the context of God’s words or deeds. It is used of God’s actions among His people; . . . the Law of God . . .God’s acts of judgment and deliverance . . . and the child to be born as the Messiah . . . These things then become the focus of peoples’s worship of God (Hebrew-Greek KEY WORD Study Bible, Old Testament Dictionary, KJV).
I mentioned that each of the Messiah’s name, represents a season in the life of His people. So what makes Him Wonderful, during what season of our lives? For each of us, the seasons may differ. But what matters is that He is there when You need Him!
I have had very close encounters with death in my life. I know that some of the doctors who have treated me in the past, are perhaps, still wondering, “How did she come out of this alive?” During one of these experiences, I was getting ready to start a Week of Prayer for the youth in my native Republic of Panama, when I suddenly became so sick that I ended up in the hospital, and then in the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital, They stopped restricting people to come and see me (taking all the necessary precautions of course), I believe that was because they were so sure that I would never come out of there alive. Besides, every visitor was identifying themselves as my “brother” or “sister.”
During this time, the church called for 24 hours, around the clock prayers for me. And my Wonderful Savior heard their cry and saved me from Sheol. There are too many details to that miracle to enter into at this time. Suffice me to say, that my doctor looked at me and in that one and only helpless looking occasion that I ever saw him assume, held on to the curtain that was around my hospital bed and said to me, “Ya te había visto en la tumba!” (I had already seen you in the tomb!) .Both he and I agreed, “God must have some work for you to do!”
By His grace, I want to work for Him until my latest breath! For He is my Wonderful! Wonderful! Savior!
So you can believe Him when He tells you:
” ‘Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know’ “( Jeremiah 33:3).
“Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness And rivers in the desert” (Isaiah 43:19).
You can believe Him, for He is Wonderful!
