Blessed is the Nation Whose God is the Lord!

The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; He makes the plans of the peoples of no effect. The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of His heart to all generations. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people He has chosen as His own inheritance. Psalm 33:10-12.

Dear Abba, blessed be Your name! We are glad to be called Your children, to be a part of that nation that claim You as their God. May we bring glory to Your name by living as Your people. In the name of  Your Son Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.

In our past two devotionals the emphasis was on the premise that God will, directly, or indirectly, have the last word, in what takes place in the world; not by taking away our free will, but by not changing His eternal laws or counsel.

Today we will look at the benefits of having God as Lord of our lives; of being a part of the inheritance He has chosen. Does that mean that God has chosen some people and rejected others? Not that He cannot do this if he wants to – after all – He is God! But His word declares that He does not play favorites (Acts 10:34), and His “word is truth” (John 17:17)!

Before looking at the benefits of being a part of that nation whose God is the Lord, let us take a look at who will make up that final nation. I therefore submit for your consideration why I believe that God Himself, will have to prepare such a nation.

The reason there are so many religions in the world, and especially so many denominations within Christianity, is because each group want to have a special claim to God, that unfortunately, excludes everyone else. We tend to forget that the purpose of God has always been to unite, not divide, His people (John 17:20-23).

Therefore, in spite of us human beings, God is already calling all those who have received Him, whom He has chosen based on their choice of Him (John 1:12, 13), and is gathering them into one fold of which He will be the One and Only Shepherd of His flock (10:16), His inheritance! What a blessed nation that will be indeed! Their blessedness will last, not only for a time, but for eternity!

God will always have the last word and His word cannot fail! He has promised that He will “wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away” (Revelation 21:4). For our further assurance He has added:  “Behold, I make all things new. . . “Write, for these words are true and faithful” (5, emphasis provided).

That is His plan – to bring the earth back to the place He wanted it to be “in the beginning,” a place where peace and love and joy abounds. Are you making plans to be there when His final word comes to past?

Blessed is the Nation Whose God is the Lord!
