Enjoying God’s Favor!

By this I know that [T]hou favorest me, because mine enemy doth not triumph over me. Psalm 41: 11

Heavenly Father, We thank You for the opportunity to study Your Word. Be our Guide we pray, and open our eyes to the great and marvelous truths that are to be found in Your Word; for Christ’s sake

It is a wonderful thing to enjoy God’s favor. In fact, I do not know how people can live without it.

Our promise for today is taken from a Psalm of David. If there was anyone, who could testify of the benefits of God’s grace, and favor, it was David. He had tasted and seen, that the Lord is good; and that those who put their trust in Him, would be blessed (Psalm 34: 8).

You remember the story of Saul’s persecution of David. As David was leaving Jerusalem, accompanied by the members of his household and faithful friends, Shimei walked over on the oppposite side of the road throwing stones at David, and cursing him. When his faithful friend Abishai became so indignant, and would have avenged him, David restrained him with these words, “And the king said… ‘so let him curse, because the Lord hath said unto him, Curse David. Who shall then say, Wherefore hast thou done so?’ ” He further said to Abishai, and the others who were accompanying him, “Behold my son, which came forth of my bowels, seeketh my life: how much more now may this Benjamite do it? let him alone, and let him curse; for the Lord hath bidden him. It may be that the Lord will look on mine affliction, and that the Lord will requite me good for his cursing this day” (2 Samuel 16: 5-12).

You see my friend, David was not too worried over man’s disfavor, because he knew the power of GOD’S FAVOR! He knew that God could change any tide, and make man’s wrongs right; because, “When a man’s ways please the Lord, [H]e maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him” (Proverbs 16: 7). Three chapters later we find Shimei bowing before the king, “And Shimei the son of Gera fell down before the king, as he was come over Jordan; And said unto the king, let not my lord impute iniquity unto me, neither do thou remember that which thy servant did perversely the day that my lord the king went out of Jerusalem, that the king should take it to his heart. For thy servant doth know that I have sinned: therefore, behold, I am come the first this day of all the house of Joseph to go down to meet my lord the king” (2 Samuel 19: 18-20). I am not convinced that Shimei’s confession came from a heart of sincere repentance, but that is not important. What is important, is that we see God vindicating his servant David! We see David basking in the sunshine of God’s favor

Remember dear friends, you have nothing to worry about when you have God’s favor. No weapon, no enemy, no evil, of any kind, will be able to triumph over you! Hallelujah!
