Coronation Day!

Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse.  And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True and in righteousness He judges and makes war.  His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns.  He had a a name written that no one knew except Himself. Revelation 19: 11, 12, NKJV.

Dear God, one day soon, You will be crowned King of kings, and Lord of lords!  As we study Your Word please draw near, and prepare us for that day; we pray in the blessed name of Jesus.  Amen.

The hymn we are considering today was based on verse 12, of Revelation.  I have added verse 11 for clarity.  Today we are looking at a very memorable event; the day when Jesus will be wearing “many crowns.”  We know that He is King of kings, and Lord of lords, but on that great day, we shall behold Him dressed in His regal apparel.  Not in a mock purple robe, with a crown of thorns upon His brow, causing Him to bleed profusely.  In the place of a stick, He will be holding a royal scepter.  Everyone who has ever lived will be looking at Him then; even those who pierced His side.  “Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him.  And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him.  Even so, Amen ” (Revelation 1: 7)!  When that day comes, I want to be there to hail Him as my Lord and King, what about you?  May God help us all to be there, when they,

                                     Crown Him With Many Crowns

Crown Him with many crowns, the Lamb upon His throne; Hark!  how the heavenly anthem drowns all music but its own!  Awake my soul and sing of Him who dies for thee; and hail Him as Thy matchless King through all eternity.

Crown Him the Lord of love!  Behold His hands and side,  Those wounds, yet visible above, in beauty glorified; no angel in the sky can fully bear that sight, but downward bends his wondering eye at mysteries so great.

Crown Him the Lord of peace!  Whose hand a scepter sways from pole to pole, that wars may cease, and all be prayer and praise; His reign shall know no end, and round His pierced feet fair flowers of Paradise extend, their fragrance ever sweet.

Crown Him the Lord of years, the Potentate of time, Creator of the rolling spheres inefably sublime!  All hail!  Redeemer, hail!  For Thou hast died for me; thy praise shall never, never fail throughout eternity.  Matthew Bridges; revised by Godfrey Thring/George J. Elvey.
