Precious Jewels!

“They shall be mine, says the LORD of hosts, on that day that I make them My jewels.  And I will spare them as a man spares his own son who serves him.” Malachi 3: 17, NKJV.

Dear God, we pray that You will begin, even now, to prepare us to be Your jewels when You return; by teaching us from Your Word.  In Jesus’ name we pray.  Amen.

Our hymn for today, is familiar to many of us.  We sing it to our little ones as we cradle them; we sing it in Sabbath School, or, in Sunday School.  The sentiment of the song is especially dedicated to children.  But in a broader sense, based on the context wherein the text is found, it is really intended for all of God’s children; boys and girls, men and women, old and young, Jews and Gentiles; all who claim God as their Father.  The Bible refer to them as “those who, feared the LORD, [and] spoke to one another.  And the Lord listened, and heard them; so a book of remembrance was written before Him for those who fear the LORD and who meditate on His name” (Malachi 3: 17).

This hymn is especially dear to me, because it was the cradle song of my first-born, Julie.  All the children in the family knew it from memory, and it was often sung in family worship.  At this time I dedicate it to all of God’s children everywhere; those who think of, and converse about, Him often.  May you be blessed!

                                                   When He Cometh

When He cometh, when He cometh to make up His jewels, all His jewels, precious jewels, His loved and His own.

Refrain:  Like the stars of the morning, His bright crown adorning, they shall shine in their beauty, bright gems for His crown.  (To be sung after every stanza).

He will gather, He will gather the gems for His kingdom, all the pure ones, all the bright ones, His loved and His own.

Little children, little children who love their Redeemer, are the jewels, precious jewels, His loved and His own.  W. O. Cushing/George F. Root.
