Our Personal God

“Are not five sparrows sold for two copper coins? And not one of them is forgotten before God. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. Luke 12: 7, 8, NKJV.

Dear God and Father, whenever we are tempted to feel abandoned, or unloved, please help us to remember that we are Your children. Then help us to rejoice in this reality. In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

This morning as I was deciding what to wear to church on Sabbath, I took up a jacket that I had purchased almost 10 years ago. As I looked it over, I began to experience a combination of feelings. some happy, some sad. I was remembering the day I bought it. Our eldest daughter had come to spend some time with her dad and I. We had had two wonderful weeks together. She had really come hoping to receive some positive word on a business venture that she was attempting. But it had not worked out the way she had expected and she was very sad; terribly disappointed!

As her mom, needless to say, I was very sad for her. I did the best I could to cheer her up, but when she left, and my husband had gone to work, I just crumbled. I wept for my darling daughter, who had been so hopeful, and had suffered such a great disappointment. So that day, I decided to go out and “cheer myself up.” I would go in search of a gray colored jacket, that I had been looking for, for a long time.

I walked into a store. It was either Robinson May;s, Macy’s, or J. C. Penny. I began looking among the racks, and from a short distance, my eyes caught something that looked like just the right shade of gray! Could it be a jacket? The one I had been looking for? I hurried over to the rack, and held the piece of clothing. It was a jacket! It was the perfect shade of gray! It was my size! And it was so much more! It had the most beautiful design worked with sequins. And the best was yet to come!

When I went to pay for it, I had my reserves about how much it would cost – it was so beautiful. I believe I asked for a price check, just to be sure I could afford it. Are you ready for this? It was just $5.48! It seems it had been a two-piece outfit that had become separated from the dress. Therefore, they had put it on the Clearance rack, and I was the fortunate buyer! I truly believe that God had it there – just for me!

You know my friends, I took that very personal. I believe that, that day, God saw how down I was feeling, and did something special just for me! A god who would take the time to remind his children that He knows every time a sparrow falls; and that He has assigned a number to every strand of hair in our heads, and knows where strand number 6 is, as well as strand number 300; has to be a personal God!

He has recorded our tears and has a bottle for them (Psalm 56: 8)! He calls us the “apple of His eye” (Zecharih 2: 8)! Need I say more?

I am so blessed to serve a personal God! What about you?
