Lord, You Know All About Us And Yet You Love Us! – Part 3

For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well. My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, The days fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of them. How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand; when I awake, I am still with You. Psalm 139:13-18.

Dear God, this is just so beautiful! The time and energy, and details, and beauty that You put into creating Your children! This makes us feel so very special. Please help us never to forget what we mean to You. In the holy name of Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.

This is by far my favorite part of this poetic Psalm! Is there a sweeter sound than this:  “Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed”? When you and I were NOTHING –   God saw us! You know what that means, that there was never a time, even before you and I were born, that God was not aware of us!

It sounds to me as if God is saying through the words of the psalmist, that even those babies who never saw the light of day; they were miscarried or aborted, God saw them!   I know my thoughts on this could create a theological bonfire. But that is what I hear. No small wonder Hagar called Him “You-Are-the-God-Who-Sees”! And before her child was born, God named him Ishmael! What a God!

Even people who were abandoned by their earthly fathers or mothers, our Heavenly Parent, God, the Father was there at their birth, and gave them a name! Hallelujah! Thanks be to God, You are Somebody!

The psalmist mentions God forming our “inward parts”; and covering us in our mother’s womb. Every single organ, every cell, tissue and tendon, nerve and nail, biceps and triceps, follicle of hair, taste buds and salivary gland, to say the least, were fashioned by our loving God! I believe when the psalmist makes mention of us being “skillfully” formed in the “lowest parts of the earth”, it is reminiscent of God’s creation of humankind from the dust of the earth (Mother Earth). The crowning act of God’s CREATIVE GENIUS, the creation of humankind!

In deed and in truth, “We are fearfully and wonderfully made”! In reverence and awe God created us, and then pronounced us “very good”! This calls for praise to our God! Let no one dare refer to you as a mistake! He or she may have made their mistake, but it is not you! You are a work of art, that came forth from the hand of a Perfect God!

So perfect a work of art that God wrote it down in His book. The Almighty made a journal entry of His work of creation. And then He created a personal calendar just for you and recorded your days even before they were; “When as yet there were none of them”!

Once again the psalmist’s contemplation of God, this time of His creative power, leaves him overwhelmed:  “How great is the sum of them!” Numberless and precious!

Until tomorrow!
