March, Month of Women’s History! Part 11

She makes linen garments and sells them, And supplies sashes for the merchants” (Proverbs 31:24).

Dear God, thank You so much for being the One who inspires us to be the very best that we can be. Please help us to find in You, the power to resist being just good enough. Help us to go from good to better, and finally, become our best, in Jesus Christ! Amen.

From our Scripture today, we discover that the woman is a professional seamstress/business woman! Not that we ever doubted the quality of her work, but now we see that she also has a select clientele: Merchants!

Her reputation goes before her. It is very likely that the word had gotten around that the woman does excellent work. It is possible that a particular merchant made an appointment to see what she had to offer, and when he or she saw her versatility, purchased some of the things she made for her own home and family; sold them and made a good profit, and also recommended her to other people in the business world. So her business prospered!

In my native Republic of Panama, I heard the older people say that a person’s best recommendation is one’s own work. It speaks for itself. I agree, and on several occasions have repeated these words to people who have done very good work for me.

*The woman has so much talent that she has improved by proper use; but she also possesses several gifts of the Spirit, that makes the work of her hands a blessing to everyone around her! It is no surprise, that her fame has gone abroad. It is one thing to be a good worker, but it is even better, when we work at constantly improving. Obviously that is the modus operandi of the woman.

A good rule of thumb is the adage: “Good, better, best. Never let it rest, until your good is better, and your better, best! During this new year, that is moving along so rapidly, I will ask God, to help me to be the very best version of me – that is, I want to become what He created me to be!

I am well aware that it will take time and effort, and that there may be days when I will want to go back to my comfort zone, and just be satisfied with who I am. But at those times I will remember what I recommended as a good rule of thumb; and by God’s grace, I will do my best, to stay in the fight, and live up to it, until I make it to the Finish Line! Please say a prayer for me!
