Call Upon Me In The Day Of Trouble; I Will Deliver You, And You Shall Glorify Me!

“…Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me.” Psalm 50: 15, NKJV.

Dearest heavenly Father, because You cannot lie, Your mercies endure forever!  Please speak to us we pray, in the precious name of Jesus, Amen.

For the very first time, since I began to post these devotionals, I feared that I would have to miss a day, or several days.  But because God cannot go back on His Word, that will not be necessary!  Praise be to God!

If we were to leave this text in its immediate context, it would seem that God is talking primarily about His ability to provide for our material needs (10-12).  What I perceive as the gist of this psalm, is that God is glorified more by the testimony we bear of Him, than by our “sacrifices!”  Therefore, let me honor Him by sharing what He did for me.

I have a very delicate stomach.  I try to watch what I eat in order to avoid indigestion, which is the main area of my discomforts.  It seems that yesterday I ate something that made me very, very, sick.  I thought that if I could get a good rest, after a few hours I would be fine.  That was not the case.  Things only got worse.

I am not sure what time it was, but it had to be very, very, late, when, not able to bear the pain any longer, I got up from my bed, went into the room where my husband was up, getting ready to begin some assignments for school; and asked for help.  He had offered to take me to the doctor twice, earlier in the day.  I had not wanted to go.  This is perhaps not the wisest policy to live by, (this is my disclaimer statement); but I usually accept to go to a doctor, when I am convinced that there is nothing else I can do to help myself!  Once again, he asked if I wanted to go to the doctor.  Once again I declined.  This time, however, I asked him to pray for me.

While I laid on my bed, he knelt beside the bed, laid his hand upon the place where I was experiencing great pain, and in a short, simple, sincere, prayer; He asked God to bring me relief.  Then he suggested that I put an icepack on the affected area, which I consented to.  Soon afterwards, my body rejected the last of whatever was causing my discomfort.  Then I fell asleep, and slept like a child!  All praise, honor, and glory to the King of kings!

I believe in the mighty power of prayer!  I have asked my daughters to lay their hands on me, and ask for God’s healing, and have experienced the answer to that prayer!  I have had my brothers and sisters in Christ pray for me, and have witnessed the answer to those prayers.  The God we serve is all-mighty!  His hand is not shortened that He cannot save; neither is His ear heavy that He cannot hear (Isaiah 50: 2; 59: 1)!

I believe we do others a favor when we ask them to pray for us.  It strengthens their faith, as well as ours, when we see God taking the time to listen to the cry of His children in the day of their trouble!  He will make a way of deliverance for us.  Sometimes it may not be exactly what we ask for; but it will certainly be what is best for us.  Call upon Him!  He is mighty to save, and He delights in saving!  And when He has answered your prayer, “Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving, and pay your vows to the Most High” (Psalm 50: 14).
