Why Fear When You Can Trust!

Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; ‘For Yah, the Lord, is my strength and song; He also has become my salvation.’” Isaiah 12:2.

Dear God, please help us to realize that You are “our shelter in the time of storm.” Give us the courage to trust You even when the storm clouds hide Your face from us! In the name of Jesus Christ we pray. Amen

Life is made up of choices, and choosing is one sure method of growth. Even bad choices can be growing pains. If we are wise we will use our bad choices to learn from them. I have often said that if I learn from my mistakes, then I have not suffered in vain (most mistakes bring some amount of suffering).

In this hymn of praise the prophet has chosen to declare His trust in God and not fear. A few chapters earlier God gave His prophet a message of hope. The promise of the Messiah, the Son of God,  that was to be given to the human race to bring them salvation.

But before the promised Messiah would come God’s people would suffer invasion and punishment at the hand of enemy nations. The painting of doom revealed to the prophet was not a pretty picture. And the prophet could have chosen to focus on the punishment.  But he wisely used his power of choice and concentrated on the promise!

This choice to trust and not fear was not an irresponsible act, throwing all caution to the wind. This was an act of faith, based on the promises that God had made to His people. The prophet Isaiah knew from past experience that God’s Word does not return to Him void, but it accomplishes what He sends it forth to accomplish (Isaiah 55: 11)! So his choice was based on God’s Word, that “the best” that was “yet to come” was still in future! And it would not fail!

The  choice that the prophet Isaiah made was a wise one. And it is one that all of us can make. Instead of worry, prayer! Instead of despair faith! Instead of fear trust!

The God he served is the same God today, and forever will be! The Only One who is one hundred percent trustworthy!

Will You choose to trust Him today?
